The 'Root To Food' Project
Volunteers were inspired to start this project after hearing a talk on food co-operatives by Pete Norton, a sustainable food consultant. After assessing the need for such an initiative in Worcester, Roots volunteers set about making it happen!
Run from Worcester Volunteer Centre every Friday, young volunteers developed our project initially by offering produce among volunteers as a friends' food co-op. Members can collect their produce which has been picked just hours before collection! It doesn't get much more fresh than this!

Root To Food
Having started as a Food Co-op, the project linked a core group of people with local food, but we wanted to do more, and so have relaunched as 'Root To Food'. The aim is the same, to provide local, seasonal produce at a price that is more affordable than what you're used to for 'speciality' items. We now hoever have a new supplier in Rush Farm, and with it comes a much wider variety of produce, without taking away from our values.
Working with The Fold, a care farm in Bransford, and Rush Farm, a Community Benefit Society, Root To Food links local, seasonal food with yourself! We truly believe this is a great way to buy local, buy fresh, and help Roots grow too!
The aim is to provide a variety of local, organic, healthy, affordable food to people in the Worcester area. We think it is important to reduce our dependence on big supermarkets and focus on sourcing food locally, to know where our food comes from. This is where the Root To Food Project comes in.
