International Compost Awareness Week (ICAW) is an awareness-raising event organised by the US Composting Council. It runs in the first week of May and aims to encourage people to get composting at home.
This year's theme is: BE LOYAL TO YOUR SOIL: COMPOST!
What's the point? What's so good about compost?
Compost keeps your garden going! It:
- Feeds the bugs which keep your soil healthy
- Is a great way to recycle organic natural waste
- Saves waste going to landfill
- Is a sustainable way to feed your garden
- It's FREE!
Did you know?
A compost heap might look like just a pile of rotting rubbish, but in fact just one gram can be home to MILLIONS of microscopic creatures!
2015 - International Year of Soils
2015 has been desginated International Year of Soils, aiming to raise awareness of sustainable soil management. Soil is an essential resource for feeding an ever growing population and lies at the heart of agriculture.
"Dishing the Dirt" on soil

The result was certainly a surprise! Read what Jon found out about soil HERE
