At Angel place, just outside the CrownGate shopping centre, Roots volunteers will have a stall offering free Fairtrade products such as tea, coffee and biscuits, for shoppers on a fresh spring day. In return, the public will learn about the intentions, goals and workings of Fairtrade, in the hope of improving public understanding.
As a nod to the Fairtrade Fortnight 2012 tagline “Take a step in 2012” we shall also have an interactive mural, where people can place a foot stamp written with what they can do to improve fair trade.
The Fairtrade Foundation has come a long way since its establishment in 1992. An independent, non-profit organisation, the foundation works to provide sustainable and just trade practices, to help give a decent livelihood and deliver potential to everyone involved. As per their website, Fairtrade “empowers citizens to campaign for an international trade system based on justice and fairness.”
Worcester Roots agree strongly about the need for fairness in a world dominated by large businesses. Fairtrade is more important now than ever, and we will be doing our part to get as many people as possible fully aware of the importance of Fairtrade this March 10th.
We hope to see you there!
